Africa Has Put Me On Hold

From what I hear, Uganda is a lovely place. Nice climate, good people, stable government. I'd love to tell you all about it. Unfortunately, that will not be happening quite yet.

I came home to Vermont to spend some quality time with the family, get some things taken care of, and pack my bags. Four weeks and I'd be out the door. But there are three things that I didn't take into account- my left foot, my right foot, and the fact that they are apparently on the wrong sides.

A couple of weeks ago my entire family came to Vermont to see me off. While they were home my sisters and I took a quick ski break. We headed out to Loon Mountain in New Hampshire to enjoy some fresh, deep snow. It was fantastic. Breathtaking views, amazing powder on the slopes, everything you could ask for.

And the medical staff was second to none, let me tell you. When I caught my edge on a pile of powder they got me down the hill in a flash and set my right shoulder without too much pain or trouble.

Yesterday I saw an orthopedic specialist about my arm. He set me up with exercises and a schedule for recovery. I called the Peace Corps about it and sent in the doctor's note. It was a very nice note. He said that there was no reason that this injury would hinder my work. The Peace Corps did not agree.

And so in five weeks or so I will be talking to my doctor again. He'll (presumably) clear me again. Then the Peace Corps will clear me. Again. And then I will hopefully be able to go to Africa.
